Google Ads Clicks but No Conversions? What to Check First
Marbury Pressure Washing, an illustrative account, bought 486 clicks on its Pressure washing campaign from Sep 21 to Nov 1 and got no call or quote. Four checks in order traced most to one keyword.
In the order to check
- MeasurementBrand’s 11 conversions came through the same two actions, so a call from the ad or a quote here would count
- Traffic397of the 486 clicks were people renting, buying or repairing the machine the keyword namesRenting one293Buying one66Repairing one38
- The offerThe ad and its page both sell house washing from $199
- After the clickGoogle rates the page mobile-friendly on 100% of mobile clicks
Check four things, in this order. Measurement first, whether Google Ads would count a call or a form if one came. Then traffic, who the clicks were, from the search terms. Then the offer, whether the ad and its page sell the same thing. Last, what happens after the click, whether the page works on a phone. Each check rules a cause in or out, from the account’s own reports where Google Ads has them, and from the business’s records or a test on a phone where it doesn’t. A bid change comes after all of them.
Start with measurement
Zero conversions can mean nothing happened, or that nothing was counted. In Google Ads, open Goals, then Conversions, then Summary, and read each conversion action’s status.
- Unverified. The action’s tag has not fired yet, so Google Ads has not verified it on your site.
- Tag inactive. Google Ads no longer sees the tag, and the action has recorded no conversion in 7 days.
- No recent conversions. Google Ads sees the tag, but the action has recorded no conversion in the last 7 days. A working tag that nobody converts on for a week shows this too.
- Recording conversions. The action has recorded conversions in the last 7 days, from any campaign, whether or not that campaign’s goals include it.
Then match the count to what the business saw
If the calls or forms came from people who clicked an ad while Google Ads shows none, measurement is the first suspect. Calls from ads counts only calls placed from the ad itself, and a call to the number on your page needs a website call action of its own. Read which goals the campaign uses as well. A campaign set to its own goals counts only those in its Conversions column, and Smart Bidding bids on that column alone. An action outside them still appears in All conv., which holds every action the account tracks.
In Marbury’s account, Search | Brand’s 11 conversions came through Calls from ads and Quote request, the same two actions Search | Pressure washing counts, and the owner took no call or quote from its clicks, so its zero is real. Where GA4 and Google Ads disagree instead, the GA4 guide separates the normal differences from a broken tag.
Then look at who clicked
Open Insights and reports, then Search terms, and read what people typed. The Match type column shows how each search matched your keyword. Then segment the campaign by network. A Search campaign includes Google search partners by default, and one set to Include Google Display Network shows its ads on sites and apps as well.
Marbury’s one keyword was pressure washer in broad match, the name of the machine, so 397 of the campaign’s clicks came from people renting, buying or repairing one. The other 89 were 31 from pressure washing near me, the job itself, and 58 from searches too small for the report to name, too few clicks to judge on their own. The fix lives in the keywords and the negatives, and the search terms guide shows how to test a negative before you add it.
Then read the ad against its page
If the right people clicked and still did nothing, compare what the ad promises with what the page sells. A price, a service or a town in the ad that the page doesn’t repeat can lose the click. Google Ads rates each keyword’s landing page experience as Above average, Average or Below average against other advertisers on the same searches, beside Ad relevance and Expected CTR. Quality Score is a diagnostic, not an input to the auction, so read it as a pointer to the page.
Marbury’s ad and page both sell house and driveway washing from $199 with a free quote, and Google rates its landing page experience Above average.
Last, what happens after the click
Google Ads doesn’t fill in the form or call the number. An action that records conversions shows they work. Where none record, open the ad’s final URL on a phone, fill in the form and tap the number. Google Ads’ Landing pages view shows a page’s Mobile-friendly click rate, the share of its mobile clicks that reached a page Google finds mobile-friendly. The audit checklist carries these checks with the rest of the account.
What Parallel AI does with the four checks
Parallel AI reads your campaigns, conversion actions and goals, search terms, ads and landing pages through the Google Ads API, in the order that finds a cause first, and writes what it found and what to change first in a Doc. It has no connection to your website, GA4 or CRM. A file you attach, such as a list of the leads you received, adds what Google Ads doesn’t record.

Questions and answers
Why does Google Ads show zero conversions when the phone rang?
Usually because the calls are not counted. Check that a conversion action counts calls from your ads, that the campaign’s goals include it, and that its status reads Recording conversions. Then compare its count with the calls you took.
Should bids come down when clicks don’t convert?
Not first. A lower bid buys fewer of the same clicks. It doesn’t fix a tag that isn’t firing or a keyword that brings the wrong searches. Check measurement and traffic before you change a bid.
Does Parallel AI test the landing page?
Parallel AI reads what Google Ads reports about your pages through the Google Ads API, such as landing page experience and the Mobile-friendly click rate. It doesn’t fill in your form or call your number. An action that records conversions shows that path works, and one that records none points to the page to open on a phone.

Find the cause before you change a bid
Marbury Pressure Washing, the illustrative account in this guide, bought 486 clicks on its Pressure washing campaign from Sep 21 to Nov 1 with not one call or quote. 397 of them were searches for the machine, not the job.
